What’s the ’08 Offshoring Buzz? Vietnam.

January 16, 2008

Only a few weeks into 2008, and the offshoring business community is buzzing. What’s everyone talking about? One of my favorite offshore destinations: Vietnam. Now that Vietnam is ranked among the word’s top 12 offshore destinations, the press can’t seem to get enough of this rapidly advancing IT and business hub.

Harvey Nash has had offshore operations in Vietnam since the beginning of this decade, which makes us old hats at navigating the offshore and business communities of this dynamic country. In this article for Global Services, Paul Smith–the Harvey Nash Global Managing Director of Outsourcing and Software Development–explains the advantages of offshoring to Vietnam. Technical proficiency, low wages, low turnover and language skills are just a few of the factors discussed in the article that have made Vietnam an offshore destination of choice for so many businesses worldwide.
2008 is predicted to be a year of growth and expansion for outsourcing and offshore destinations. For example, outsourcing expert Ben Trowbridge predicts an “Outsourcing Tsunami.” With that in mind, it should be very interesting to see how emerging players like Vietnam compete this year against long-time industry dominants like India and China. Stayed tuned, and I will keep you posted.
